Meet our staff
The national office has a staff complement of ten full-time and three part-time employees who are based at the Association’s freehold premises in London W1. Led by the Chief Executive, our staff assist members in their duties and respond to work generated by the Association’s Council, Standing Committees and Honorary Officers. Every day the office handles letters, telephone calls and emails from members, government departments, the media and other key players in the criminal justice system, associated organisations, students and the general public.
CHRIS BRACE JP
As head of staff, Chris has overall responsibility for the management of the organisation and finances. He supports and reports to the Board of Trustees and provides assistance to the national officers.
Policy & Research Officer (Adult Court)
Douglas supports the work of the Adult Court Committee by researching, developing and implementing MA policies relating to all aspects of the work of the adult courts.
Head of Policy & Research
Jo has overall responsibility for the direction, development and implementation of MA policies relating to the work of magistrates’ courts.
Head of Membership
John is the strategic and operational lead on all membership activities. He has overall responsibility for membership activities, ensuring effective member recruitment, retention, communication, engagement and services.
Policy & Research Officer (Youth and Family Courts)
Dustin supports the work of the Youth and Family Courts Committees by researching, developing and implementing MA policies relating to all aspects of the work of the youth and family courts.
Head of Finance
As well as looking after the financial side of the Association, Rajen provides budgeting advice to the Treasurer and Chief Executive, a contract management function, and low-level IT support to all staff.
Head of Communications
Jason has has overall responsibility for all internal and external communications, including media activity, the website and publications.
Melodie has specific responsibility for: website development and updates; picture research for MAgistrate magazine; MA eNews; PowerPoint presentations; assisting with media and general enquiries.
Contact Alison for queries relating to membership, change of address, subscription matters, Gift Aid donations, change of bank details etc.
Andrew’s role is to monitor, assist, advise and support the 60 local branches of the Magistrates’ Association, providing a link between them and the national office.
Sandra has a front-line role at the MA, welcoming visitors, working directly with the Honorary Officers, Trustees and Committees and providing administrative support to staff.
Magistrates Communications Assistant
Susan provides assistance to the administration of the Magistrates in the Community project.
